Public libraries safe in latest round of mid-year budget cuts

On Wednesday, the Board of Public Works approved the latest round of mid-year budget cuts.  Public libraries were not targeted in this round; however, state employees throughout various departments are loosing their jobs.  The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) is loosing a total of eight positions.  Six of the positions are vacant, but two are currently filled.  The Division of Library Development and Services (DLDS) lost one position at the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped.

For more details about the cuts, see the Governor’s Office press release, which contains links to a complete list and a summary of budget actions.
