NTIA announces more BTOP recipients

The National Telecommunication Information Administration (NTIA) has announced additional recipients of Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP) funds.  The list includes some libraries, but no recipients from Maryland.  See the press release at for more details.  NTIA plans to make all BTOP awards by September 30th.

More Broadband Round 2 information available

Rural Utilities Service (RUS) and National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA) have posted new information on the BroandbandUSA web site:

  • Easygrants Round 2 FAQ – The Easygrants system is not yet available to submit Round 2 applications for BIP and BTOP, but the FAQ is being provided to assist with assembling application materials.
  • Grant Guidance – Detailed guidance on preparing and submitting a BTOP grant application is now available for the Comprehensive Community Infrastructure (CCI), Sustainable Broadband Adoption (SBA) and Public Computer Center (PCC) programs.   Scroll down to the BTOP section and click on guidance for the program of interest.

ALA requests more funding for public computer centers

The American Library Association (ALA), along with other organizations, sent a letter to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) requesting that additional funding be allocated to the amount available for the Public Computer Centers (PCC) program of the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP).  The demand in the first round was significantly greater than the minummum allocation of $200 million.  For additional information, including a link to the letter, see the District Dispatch posting.
