Advocacy Alert! Tell Congress They Can’t Leave Libraries Behind

Thanks to your advocacy, funding for libraries was included in the CARES Act! Unfortunately, new COVID-19 relief funding plans leave out libraries. We need your advocacy efforts again to be sure that libraries are included!

A new bill, the Library Stabilization Fund Act, has been introduced to provide $2 billion through the Institute of Museum & Library Services (IMLS) for emergency recovery funds for libraries. Only some MD members of Congress have shown support. Here is the advocacy still needed:

  • Some Congressmen are co-sponsors of the bill. Please reach out and thank them for their support!
    • Senator Cardin
    • Senator Van Hollen
    • Representative Jamie Raskin
  • Some Congressmen previously signed on to a bipartisan letter of support for stabilization funding for libraries, but have not yet co-sponsored the bill. Please ask them to co-sponsor the bill!
    • Representative Anthony Brown
    • Representative John Sarbanes
    • Representative David Trone
  • Some Congressmen have not yet demonstrated any support. Please ask them to show their support by co-sponsoring the bill!
    • Representative Andy Harris
    • Representative Steny Hoyer
    • Representative Kweisi Mfume
    • Representative Dutch Ruppersberger

For more information about the bill and how to contact members of Congress, see the engagement from the American Library Association (ALA).

Thanks in advance for any advocacy efforts!
